Meet Dr. Sam Felker
Dr. Sam Felker was raised on an acreage near a small town outside of Calgary, where her love for animals was cultivated from a young age. Her desire to be a veterinarian was present from the time she knew that being an animal doctor was a career.
Dr. Felker graduated in 2014 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Calgary. Eager to work with as many species as possible, she spent the next seven years in mixed practice in rural central Alberta. This period was instrumental for developing experience in emergency medicine and really encouraged the skill of developing creative, individualized treatment plans for patients in partnership with the clients. In 2021, Dr. Felker transitioned to the Animal Emergency Hospital in Red Deer, where she has since focused on emergency and critical care medicine.
Outside of her hospital work, Dr. Felker and her husband co-own a successful pet cremation business, providing compassionate end-of-life services for families. She also runs a unique ambulatory large animal practice and offers in-home euthanasia services, ensuring that animals and their owners receive care in the comfort of their own spaces. When she is not working as a professional or running a business, Dr Sam is found at home with her family which includes two young kids, her husband and a farm full of animals.
